I would like to make several points in response to the article "Terrorist Bombings Averted in Xinjiang," published on Sept. 4. While I am grateful to Mr. Schaefer for acknowledging that the majority of Uyghurs are peaceful, he has gotten many of his facts wrong.
Alim Seytoff, general secretary of Uyghur American Association (UAA) has written a letter to the editor at the Toronto Sun newspaper in Canada in response to Mr. Peter Worthington's article “Curious Case of Canuck Abroad; Uighur Activist’s Allegiance Appears to be Elsewhere published on Thursday, August 31, 2006.
The Pakistani authorities should be extremely wary about the credibility of warnings issued by the Chinese government regarding alleged plots by Uyghurs to kidnap Chinese diplomats and consular officers in Pakistan.
The Uyghur American Association urges its members and everyone else concerned about the fate of Ms Rebiya Kadeer's children currently held in Chinese detention, so send a copy of the letter below to Mr Jacques Rogge, President of the International Committee. Maintaining Ms Kadeer's children's case as an issue of international concern in as many ways as possible will help to ensure that their case is not forgotten, and will hopefully ensure that they are granted justice and released.
