Third Uyghur American Congress was held on May 29, 2002 in Washington D. C. and elected the third term of Board Of Directors for UAA.

The Uyghur American Association was established on May 23, 1998 in Washington D.C. at the First Uyghur American Congress. The growing Uyghur community in the United States created a need for a unified Uyghur organization to serve the needs of the community here and to represent the collective voice of the Uyghurs in East Turkistan.
