20,000 farmers go to Xinjiang to pick cotton

At least 20,000 farmers have gone to Xinjiang by the end of August to pick cotton, Chongqing Labour Service Office told the reporter yesterday.

The business time for cotton picking is from September to November, when 500,000 working hands are needed. It is learnt that a farmer can earn 1,600 yuan by picking cotton for two months.

Thousands of farmers went to Xinjiang and picked cotton last year.

The responsible persons concerned with Chongqing Labour Service Office made an investigation in Xinjiang and signed contracts with the local employers for exporting labor service to Xinjiang. Farmers in Chongqing are very active to go to Xinjiang to pick cotton
